If we are speaking hypothetically about changing the course of fate, I'd appeal to his emotions over loss he'd suffer in the future. One he'd do anything to change

That's... not quite the same thing as convincing someone to be on your side. It might convince someone to work with you, but that's not the same.

Because in order to do that I'd have to go back further and doing so would break our connection. That is not something I'm willing to allow.
