I'm saying this in the hope that nothing will happen and the sure knowledge that we have plenty of people on board who take a recent murder as a challenge. Misty, to take one obvious example.
Ah, you and I both know that most of them aren't going to give you enough trouble to stop you from walking away if you want to. Self-defense is for those situations where you actually need to pull a weapon or you'll get hurt.
I'm worried that someone who's not up to your weight class will try to pick a fight and you'll take their head off.
Which, to be clear, isn't something I'd get all judgmental over. But it would be a shame. So I'm asking you, as a favor, to blow people off if they are not an actual threat.
When Sephiroth does arrive on the deck, he's carrying the masamune and though he's holding it positioned behind and upwards it doesn't hide how ridiculously long it is.]
Yunlan's perched on the deck rail -- less of a risky move when the Barge is docked and there's a vast seething jungle spread out under them, but he's got one of his free feet hooked around a cross-beam for extra security just in case. He brightens when he sees Sephiroth emerge, sitting up straighter and raising one hand in greeting.
"Hey there," he says, and then takes a dubious look at the sword. "Do you just carry it like that? How do you not trip yourself constantly?"
Sephiroth briefly considers what would happen if Yunlan just so happens to 'fall' off the side there, but decides against it choosing to stop a few feet away instead.
"Skill," he answers simply. "Though many gave attempted, few can effectively wield it."
With a slight tilt of his head, he raises an arm to offer the hilt to Yunlan if he wants to try and hold it.
"Were I in possession of my full powers, I'd be able to manifest it at will. This way is less efficient, but not impossible."
"So it normally pops in and out? -- No thanks," Yunlan adds to the offer with a grin, "I can barely use a normal-size sword, Sephiroth, I already know I'd embarrass myself if you handed me that one. That's big enough to be a horse-chopper."
He spreads his hands with a shrug. "But if that's the one you're experienced with, well, it'll be a decent dinosaur-chopper too, I bet. The animals out there are big suckers. Speaking of, do they have dinosaurs where you're from? Or did they used to?"
"I once saw a young girl hold it, I'm sure you could manage." Maybe. It might be fun to watch. Tifa tried to stab him with it but that didn't go too well. He won't press it though, lowering his hand instead.
"... Dinosaurs? That is not a familiar name, but there are many creatures no longer on the planet that once roamed."
"Big lizard birds," Yunlan says, "with teeth instead of beaks." He hopes Sephiroth's from someplace with lizards, birds, or both, or that's not going to be as helpful as it could be.
He lets the question of whether he could hold the sword or not go by: he's sure he could, but he's not particularly interested in trying. Besides, he doesn't think that Sephiroth's the kind of guy to bond with by being charmingly bad at things. More like, letting him think he's fully the boss of the situation is going to mean he's just got no respect for anyone else in it.
"We have several large animals, but I don't know of one matching that description. Perhaps the Vlakorados is the closest." But he's not sure how birdlike it is.
"Would these dinosaurs be comparable to the zolom?" He pauses, he probably should explain that. "A thirty foot tall snake."
"Uh... pretty much zero percent like a giant snake," Yunlan says slowly. "Except for some of them being giant. But if you've dealt with giant snake monsters, I think you'll probably be okay dealing with the dinosaurs."
"There's also things like Bahamut, perhaps they are closer to that," he waves the idea off a bit. "Either way the zolom fell by my hands, it is doubtful there anything here I cannot match."
"I have the greatest of confidence in you," Yunlan declares, hops down off the Barge railing, and dramatically waves Sephiroth towards the gangplank, phone in hand. "Message me if you need anything! And have fun."
Sephiroth stares at Yunlan for a moment before dismissively waving him off. "I doubt that will be needed."
He turns to leave and if Yunlan keeps watching he'll see a massive wing magically spring out around his right shoulder. Because he's totally going to go around this place with the wing.

[He flashes Sephiroth a half-grin.]
So! Meet you up on deck, and I'll get the door for you?

Well, he really fucking hopes that wasn't a mistake. But a guy's got to start making calculated gestures of trust sometime, after all.
