In all honesty? Either. They would have lost either way.

You seem very sure of that. Who would Shinra lose against?

[sefirot]

Shinra had me. Wutai stood no chance. Shinra has mostly been brought down, but that's because those on top have been taken out of power. The city they once controlled is still there.

[ukan]

[So dry:] The city is. Are the people?

[sefirot]

Yes, but it's not in the same state as it was originally.

[ukan]

Collateral damage I suppose. [He's not a hero, and he doesn't agonize over such things.]

But I'm guessing you and Shinra parted ways after that fight?

[sefirot]

Oh, I left Shinra before that. You could say, Cloud is the one who ultimately knocked the kings off the throne.

But I did take out the President first.

That's a hell of a way to leave an employer. What prompted it?

[sefirot]

It was five years after I left when I killed him. As for why I left -- well, I learned a lot of truths. Shinra held many dark secrets.

[ukan]

Such as? [The Barge has plenty, too; he wonders how curious Sephiroth is.]

Their army was based around human experimentation.

[ukan]

[He understands curiosity but this gets his interest. The aggressive kind, though he keeps it hidden.]

What form of experimentation?

[sefirot]

Genetic. Regular humans received enhancements to become super soldiers. But they were actually trying to recreate an extinct race, the SOLDIER program was just a by product of their meddling.

[ukan]

[Well. Turns out humans are pieces of shit in every universe.]

How did they find candidates for these experiments?

[sefirot]

People willingly joined into SOLDIER. The enhancements were no secret but the rest was.

Not everyone qualified.

Zack was in the program while Cloud on the other hand never made it.

[ukan]

Cloud didn't make it? [Then why are you so obsessed with him?]

Did you?

[sefirot]

You could say that.

[Not in the same manner as the others though.]

And no, Cloud was only an infantryman. He did later steal Zack's identity for awhile though. You should ask him about that sometime.

[A faint chuckle] I will. He's had a storied life, I hear.

Were you not an experiment?

[sefirot]

I was in SOLDIER -- at the very top, but not the same as the rest. I did not undergo the same enhancements the rest did.

[ukan]

'The top' meaning you administered the experiments?

[sefirot]

No. By top I mean I was the hero everyone strives to be. No one could ever come close to matching my skills and strength.

[ukan]

Strength and skill don't make a hero.

[sefirot]

I'm not the one who gave myself the title.

[ukan]

What title would you give yourself?
